Pet Screen Earring Holder

Happy Manly Monday everyone!! This week’s tutorial is a fun one! A few months ago I showed you how to make a beach bag  using pet screen and today’s tutorial uses the leftover pet screen from that project to make an Earring Holder!

Pet Screen Earring Holder

I’m the type of person to get a head start on Christmas gifts! So anytime I find an easy project that I can make for several people, I’m all for it! This is certainly one of those projects! Enjoy!

Dancing Dots Quilt

I think we’ve all worked on a project when we just didn’t have enough fabric! You know the drill, you buy what you think is plenty of fabric, get to work and then BOOM! You’re running out of fabric and you’re not even close to being done! You could go get more fabric but you’re on a deadline! Maybe it’s just me, but that is exactly what happened for this project when I designed it many years ago! I had to use every little scrap I had to make the background big enough to do my applique patterns on top!

DANCING DOTS pinnable

Although I was sweating over it at the time, I ended up changing the original pattern to match the creation I made in a crunch! I loved the new scrappy look that it had!

This quilt is fun because of the muted background that gives movement and the Dancing Dots on the top that are appliqued down! It’s a great project because we can practice some curved piecing, straight piecing and even applique! I hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Framed Fiber Art

Have you ever bought fabric that ends up sitting on a shelf because it’s just too perfect to use? Or maybe you bought it for a project, then switched gears and went with a different color scheme instead, leaving that fabric to collect dust and go out of print. This week’s tutorial is perfect for those precious pieces that we love but don’t have plans for! Follow along as Rob shows us how to embellish and machine quilt a piece of fabric to become Framed Fiber Art!! Enjoy!

Customized Backpacks

It’s that time of year again, the kids are getting their haircuts, picking out new outfits and preparing to take on the new school year! This year I wanted my kids to go back to school with backpacks that would be easily distinguishable from other students’ bags but I wanted them to be safe! (Bags that are personalized without having personal information!)

So I’ve teamed up with ROSS Dress for Less to help parents get their kids back to school with bags that are easy on the wallet and fun for the kids! Enjoy this week’s tutorial!

Drawstring Bag Toy Playmat

I often wonder why humans have such sensitive feet! You would think they would be tough, especially since they carry us from place to place! Maybe it’s just me but when I stub my toe,  my vision is instantly blurred with watery eyes and my vocabulary is a little more bold than usual. Have you ever stepped on a lego? Oh gosh, it’s game over when that happens!! Someone might as well amputate my foot because my feet are just so sensitive!! Stepping on things is definitely a common problem in a household with kids! That’s why I am so jazzed about today’s tutorial! In this video I’ll teach you how to make a Drawstring Bag Toy Playmat! It’s an easy sewing project that will help a bunch when it comes to keeping things tidy! Because I used denim to make mine, it’s going to handle the wear and tear of the kids! My mom would sometimes say, “This is why we can’t have nice things”, after I would break something while playing and just being a kid! Well have no fear because when these bags are made with the right supplies, they are going to last a lifetime!!

Sister’s Oregon Trip

Hey everyone! I wanted to take a minute and share some (A LOT) of the pictures from my trip to Sister’s Oregon! I taught some classes at the Quilter’s Affair event and then volunteered at The Stitchin’ Post to sell some Quilt Show gear and checked out the sweet quilts on display! I had an absolute blast but man is it great to be home with my family again!

It is always great to meet new quilting friends!  This was a last minute photo of Sarah Fielke and I.  She designed the cool Snippets fabric by  Windham that I used in the Weighted Pin Cushion Tutorial.  She is such a nice lady and a great designer!!

Ballistic Beach Bag

ballistic beach bag blue

Let’s be honest here, a person can never have too many bags! My wife has so many that she has a bag to hold all her bags! It’s a little ridiculous but it’s okay because I love her. It’s also okay because I’m an enabler of the bag craze! Today’s tutorial is a great example of that!!

We live in California and go to the beach a lot! So this bag was a necessity for my families’ bag collection! We use this one for grocery shopping, days at the park and just about any time we have to carry things! (Except for sneaking snacks into the theatre… it doesn’t work too well for that!)

Independence Day Traditions

patrioticnewsletter-01 I can’t believe that it’s almost Independence Day!! I love this time of year! Red, white and blue paving the streets, BBQs, fireworks,  picnics, carnivals, family time, the list goes on forever! In my family,  we have two Independence Day traditions. The first is to participate in the Morro Bay Family Fun Day.  We love to kick it off with the bicycle parade. We all decorate our bikes and  helmets and then cruise along the waterfront in a pack of several hundred people of all ages. The kids have always loved it and I love every chance they get to be creative! We then spend the day having fun and participating in whatever else is going on in Morro Bay! We drink lots of lemonade and usually eat lots of super yummy food! Later that night, the family helps me get packed for my traditional road trip the next day! 4th of July The tradition for the 5th of July is to get up at 4am and start out on a 750 mile road trip to Sisters, Oregon.  I get to see good friends such as Valori Wells and spend the week teaching! This year I’m teaching a few classes on the “Color Strata” quilt and also some “Endangered Species” quilts. It’s going to be a fun time!  It really is a cool gig, I enjoy being involved in the happenings of the Quilter’s Affair classes and the Annual Outdoor Quilt Show. If you get a chance to come, you definitely should!  This quilt was featured a few years back at the show. It’s called “And the Flag Was Still There” IMG_20140712_083130_432 Below is one of the quilts headed to the show with me! I’ve been wanting to make a Man Sewing Missouri Star quilt for awhile and finally got around to it!  What do you think? Man Sewing Missouri Star Mini Quilt I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures of our Independence Day festivities and also of the Outdoor Quilt Show! Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!
