Quilt Market Fall 2015
Quilt Market is always a blast and always seems to fly by way too fast! We shared some pictures on Facebook and Instagram from my travels at Market and wanted to compile them in one place for you! I hope that if you weren’t able to go, these pictures will help you feel like you were there with me!
For several years I’ve been helping Michael Miller Fabrics put up and take down their booth. I did it again this year and had a great time with great friends!
After setup I got to enjoy Quilt Market and walk around. I didn’t really have a set schedule which was nice!
This summer Sizzix sent me some sweet stuff to play with and my daughter and I made these dolls. It was cool to meet the creator of the doll die in person!
This was probably one of my favorite booths! The colors and patterns spoke to my soul. I NEED this fabric!
I can officially say I’ve met Tim Holtz, such a cool, talented guy!
The owner’s of Missouri Star Quilt Company brought this to Market after going to Sunday’s game in KC. Of course I had to get a picture with it. Go Royals!!! Game 1 of the World Series against the Mets is tonight!
I spot a Man Sewing fan!!
So glad I got to chat with Valori and Jean Wells AND Violet Craft! All great friends, fun to see them grow in the industry!
A couple of photos from Instagram! One I reposted from Missouri Star and the other from @jennykaequilts!
The crew at MSQC were a blast to hang out with. This is a secret but I’m still starstruck when I see Jenny and I’ve been working with her for almost a year now… Shhh
I wish it wasn’t the last day of quilt market!! #Repost @jennykaequilts ・・・ I got to see Rob Appell again. Thanks, Rob, for the advice and encouragement! #jennykaequilts #mansewing #quiltmarket 2015 A photo posted by Man Sewing with Rob Appell (@mansewing) on
Meeting fans at market was so rewarding. When I teach to a camera I never know who’s going to watch the tutorials.
All in all, Quilt Market was a success! Time to go catch up on sleep and work on some projects for you all!
Sugar Skull
This week’s Manly Monday was all about the thread painting! We used some sweet glow in the dark thread to really capture the Halloween spirit in this project. Follow along as I teach you some thread painting techniques on our awesome Sugar Skull!

Action Figure Holder
It’s that time of week again and this tutorial couldn’t come at a better time! I’m in Star Wars prep mode as the new movie comes out in a few months so this fun Action figure Holder was a must! I needed a way to organize my kids action figures (Okay you caught me, they’re mine…) and this was the perfect project to do it!
These can be used to hold jewelry, crafty supplies, tech gadgets, anything and everything that would fit and you need to take on the go!

Fabric Post Cards
The technology we have today is incredible! We can push a button on a machine in our kitchen and our food is cooked, we didn’t even have to gather wood or tend a fire! We can lay in bed in our pajamas, teeth not even brushed yet and order fabric to be sent right to your doorstep! We can send messages to people across the world without even picking up a writing utensil! The conveniences we have are phenomenal!
**SOAP BOX OPINION** Yes, technology has made the world a more simple place (Except when I can’t get my wifi to work! Game over when that happens!) but I remember the days of hand written letters and anxiously waiting for the mailman to arrive! Although I love waiting  for the mailman these days when a box of fabric is headed my way, I miss the times of sentimental hand written letters and cards! Bills don’t quite qualify…
This week’s tutorial is a fun and easy way to bring back snail mail! Fabric postcards!!! That’s right, post cards made entirely of fabric! These are so fun to make AND receive!

THANK YOU!
I wanted to take a quick second to say THANK YOU for all the love you’ve shown on this new channel! It has grown faster than I ever expected and it makes my heart swell! Thanks for watching the tutorials and sharing the love! I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without you!!
Missouri Star Quilt Company gave me this skateboard deck as I reached a few goals of mine. The goals were to get 1 million views on YouTube and reach 25 thousand subscribers on YouTube! After 6 short months I made it! All thanks to YOU! I’m giving everyone virtual hugs and high-fives! You rock! Thanks for letting me live my dream of teaching quilting for a living!
My board found it’s new home on my studio wall and I must say, it’s perfect!
Pet Screen Earring Holder
Happy Manly Monday everyone!! This week’s tutorial is a fun one! A few months ago I showed you how to make a beach bag  using pet screen and today’s tutorial uses the leftover pet screen from that project to make an Earring Holder!
I’m the type of person to get a head start on Christmas gifts! So anytime I find an easy project that I can make for several people, I’m all for it! This is certainly one of those projects! Enjoy!

Sister’s Oregon Trip
Hey everyone! I wanted to take a minute and share some (A LOT) of the pictures from my trip to Sister’s Oregon! I taught some classes at the Quilter’s Affair event and then volunteered at The Stitchin’ Post to sell some Quilt Show gear and checked out the sweet quilts on display! I had an absolute blast but man is it great to be home with my family again!
I taught a few classes this week, the Color Strata Quilt class, Endangered Species Quilt class and Making friends with Your Quilting Machine with Rob Appell and Barbara Shape! All were fun, I can’t ever pick favorites. The quilts from my classes turned out great!!!
Here are some of the pictures that I shared/reposted on Instagram! Super cool!

This is outside The Stitchin’ Post! This year the Outdoor Quilt Show had over 2,000 quilts on display!! It was awesome!!
My buddy Mike had a few quilts on display! I loved this one that be brought!
The detail that he puts into his projects really amazes me! Isn’t this awesome??
It is always great to meet new quilting friends!  This was a last minute photo of Sarah Fielke and I.  She designed the cool Snippets fabric by Windham that I used in the Weighted Pin Cushion Tutorial.  She is such a nice lady and a great designer!!
The drive home was nothing short of beautiful! I had to pull over and snap this pic of Mount Shasta!
Until next year, Sisters, OR!
Independence Day Traditions
I can’t believe that it’s almost Independence Day!! I love this time of year! Red, white and blue paving the streets, BBQs, fireworks,  picnics, carnivals, family time, the list goes on forever! In my family,  we have two Independence Day traditions. The first is to participate in the Morro Bay Family Fun Day.  We love to kick it off with the bicycle parade. We all decorate our bikes and  helmets and then cruise along the waterfront in a pack of several hundred people of all ages. The kids have always loved it and I love every chance they get to be creative! We then spend the day having fun and participating in whatever else is going on in Morro Bay! We drink lots of lemonade and usually eat lots of super yummy food! Later that night, the family helps me get packed for my traditional road trip the next day! The tradition for the 5th of July is to get up at 4am and start out on a 750 mile road trip to Sisters, Oregon.  I get to see good friends such as Valori Wells and spend the week teaching! This year I’m teaching a few classes on the “Color Strata” quilt and also some “Endangered Species” quilts. It’s going to be a fun time!  It really is a cool gig, I enjoy being involved in the happenings of the Quilter’s Affair classes and the Annual Outdoor Quilt Show. If you get a chance to come, you definitely should! This quilt was featured a few years back at the show. It’s called “And the Flag Was Still There” Below is one of the quilts headed to the show with me! I’ve been wanting to make a Man Sewing Missouri Star quilt for awhile and finally got around to it!  What do you think? I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures of our Independence Day festivities and also of the Outdoor Quilt Show! Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!
International Fairy Day!
We love to get crafty with the kids, it keeps their imaginations going and allows them to express themselves! (We also want them to love art as much as we do!)
Well a few days ago it was International Fairy Day. My daughter loved it!!! My family has been working on Fairy Gardens as a summer project and having an International holiday to celebrate fairies was the cherry on top! I just got around to taking pictures, but aren’t they turning out pretty sweet? We can’t wait to get them finished and painted! We hear that if we build them, the fairies will swarm in! 🙂
I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures when we get them painted and put out! 🙂
On a side note, here’s a Chenille Quilt Tutorial I did using Fairy fabrics by Michael Miller! Happy International Fairy Day! (Even if I’m a little late)Â http://land.mansewing.com/chenille-quilting/?utm_source=mscom&utm_medium=lp&utm_campaign=tms04
