Cork Wallet FREE Printable

You may know that Rob is crazy for cork! After he created his first Streamline Cork Wallet this spring, he started dreaming up ways to keep using it! He’s made a Foldover Bag and has a few more projects in the works, but he just couldn’t stop creating cork wallets. The cork fabric is water resistant and wears very similarly to leather, making it a great choice for projects that get a lot of wear and tear.

While back in Hamilton to film a round of Man Sewing tutorials, Rob made a guest appearance on Missouri Star Quilt Co.’s Facebook Live, and shared a quick tutorial for a wallet made completely out of cork! This project is a quick and easy present for that special guy in your life just in time for the holidays!

Sharkapalooza Shark Applique FREE Printable

Create a Shark Appliqué Design with Rob Appell of Man Sewing

msqc_Pin_625x980

I knew the first ever Sharkapalooza Week at Missouri Star Quilt Co and Man Sewing had to be special, and what better way to celebrate this fintastic week, than with a FREE  Shark Applique Design download!

To make this project, I grabbed my trusty Shark Applicutter, a Colors of Moda–Blues Fat Quarter Bundle, and some Heat N Bond Feather Lite and ironed on some fusible before I dove into cutting! Once I had all of my pieces ready to go, I went directly to my sewing machine…I couldn’t wait to see this shark come to life! After sewing the appliqué, I used a remaining fat quarter as a backing, added some batting and created a shark sandwich! Then came my  favorite part, the free motion quilting! I added some splashes and waves to give our Shark friend a fun place to hang out!

I had a whale of a good time creating this applique design, and I’m sure you will too! I turned my Shark Applique into a 18.5” by 17.5” wall hanging, and I think this design would look great on nautical-themed quilts, pillows and more!

If  you want to see how the project came together for me, check out this stop-motion video on my Man Sewing YouTube channel!

Rob & Co in Hamilton

Rob and kids

Rob’s kiddos, Brayden and Ruby, joined him for his most recent trip to Hamilton, MO to film a new set of tutorials and fun was a blast! Check out the Facebook Live Video they did on set HERE.

Behind the Scenes

Ruby worked hard for weeks leading up to the trip getting a couple of projects ready to film tutorials with her dad. She’s a natural on camera! Brayden loves making videos himself, so he had a blast checking out all of the equipment and helping to run one of the cameras. Keep an eye out for the new tutorials on Man Sewing soon (You can subscribe to the Man Sewing YouTube Channel HERE to make sure you don’t miss them)!

Brayden even made his own video recapping the Appell Family Trip to Hamilton. How cool is that? He’s got some serious video making skills (We just might have ourselves a new tutorial making team)!

We hope to make this trip as a family again sometime, it was so much fun!

Purl & Loop Loom

I quilt. I sew. I knit and dye and embroider. And today? Today I weave! I’m a lover of fiber art in all its forms, and I’m always on the lookout for cool materials and interesting textures and colors. This week I was inspired by Missouri Star’s new collection of yarn and an awesome little Purl & Loop loom, and right away I knew I had to put together a basic weaving tutorial.

In today’s video, I’ll run you through the basics of loom weaving including fringe vs. no fringe, thin vs. thick yarn, and even a few time-saving tips. Click HERE to watch the free tutorial!
